I have been pondering the issue of scale. Often I see a piece of my own work or that of a student, and think: this would be FABULOUS at a drastically larger scale. But how do you DO that?? I also find interesting the juxtaposition of dramatically contrasting scales - teeny tiny marks next to great big marks. In my studio I am investigating both of these ideas. I would love to hear your thoughts on this topic.

NetBeans 6 9 The JavaFX Composer Rocks
NetBeans 6.9 has finally been released a few days back, June 15th 2010 to be exact. It was a very special release in the NetBeans community as this was the first major revision after Oracles acquisition of Sun Microsystems this January. Along with NetBeans, a minor revision of GlassFish, GlassFish 3.0.1 has also been released. The minor revision contains several bug fixes and the GlassFish Server Open Source Edition 3.0.1 has been integrated with NetBeans 6.9.
There are several new features which been added to NetBeans this time, like the support for Zend Framework on PHP, Ruby on Rails 3.0 Beta support, Spring Framework 3.0, JavaFX SDK 1.3, CSS Refactoring and Code Completion, support for JDK 7 and several other features. The complete feature enhancement list is available at http://wiki.netbeans.org/NewAndNoteworthy69.
But personally, I felt the best feature addition to NetBeans this time was the JavaFX Composer. For people who are new to JavaFX, it is a Java platform for creating and delivering Rich Internet Applications (RIA) that can run across a wide variety of connected devices like computers (as browser-based and desktop applications), mobile phones, TV set-top boxes, gaming consoles and Blu-ray players.
The JavaFX Composer is a visual layout tool similar to Project Matisse for Swing. Initially released as a plugin for NetBeans 6.8, it has now been completely incorporated into NetBeans 6.9. The primary features of the JavaFX Composer are -
- Visual editor for a form-like UI using components
- Dynamic design editing based on states
- Data access to Web Services, databases and local storage
- Support for JavaFX binding
- Simple animation editor
- Multi-screen-size editing
Create a new JavaFX project using the JavaFX Composer by navigating to File, New Project and choosing a JavaFX Desktop Business Application or a JavaFX Mobile Business Application under the JavaFX category depending on the requirement. Give a project name and the UI editor opens for creating the UI from the JavaFX components.
Drag and drop components from the palette and create the user-interface as you want. Heres a small echo application which echoes what has been typed in the text-box. To be honest, this is my first application in JavaFX and I could finish it by typing only a single line of code and that too a JOptionPane.showMessageDialog and I had help from the auto-complete feature of NetBeans for this :), rest of the work was done the JavaFX composer. That actually reflects the ease of development which the composer and NetBeans are driving. On a whole, a big thumps-up for the JavaFX composer and the entire NetBeans development team for integrating this into the IDE.

The Life of Brian was attacked because it ridiculed something that deserved it. I think most of us younguns wont be aware of the magnitude of these attacks. There was a huge controversy when the film was released. But thats the point. It showed that you were allowed to criticize Christianity out loud. In public. That because some people take a belief very seriously - it doesnt mean you have too as well.
Its this same effect that Muslims worry about now. Though the Satanic verses isnt the book to do it, and threatening death to those that might criticize is just a way to prevent that bubble being popped - in the way Monty Python did so well.
What lot of future hopefuls is a newly launched group" The "Council of Ex-Muslims of Britain" to voice the views of those who have left Islam. Who have said:
"Too many things in the media and government policies have been geared to pandering to the political Islamic movements and Islamic organizations"
"I hope well get a lot more attention and begin to change the debate."
But its not all good, the President of Gambia has used his Magic Medicine (and Allah) to cure 33 people of the HI Virus.
Whats also great is that he starts his monologue by boasting that he isnt afraid of touching them. The Cunt.

Greetings: Below is a link to a rough draft of a paper Ive recently written on McDowells epistemology; the paper charges his account with failing two anti-luck desiderata.
Warning: I am not entirely satisfied with this paper; thanks to some recent suggestions, I am aware that my section on perceptual-recognitional abilities needs amended. (Also, I need to re-think some other claims I make). Ive decided to post it nonetheless, in case others wish to consider the nascent arguments and/or or provide any comments.

ABSTRACT: This essay will advance the view that the McDowellian theory of knowledge fails to satisfy the requirements of an adequate anti-luck epistemology. Section 1 presents two twin anti-luck desiderata that, I shall argue, an account must accomodate: (i) If S knows p, then S could not have easily been wrong that p; (ii) If S knows p, then S is credit-worthy for her true belief that p. In Section 2, I outline the salient differences between McDowell’s iconoclastic anti-luck strategy and traditional strategies. Section 3 offers reasons for thinking that McDowell fails to satisfy what I have presented as the first anti-luck desideratum; section 4 offers reasons for thinking that McDowell fails the second desideratum.

CHANEL have some vibrant Spring offerings, I cant start getting ready for a little sunny weather fast enough!
Just landed on my desk is the new colourful summer-in-LA inspired CHANEL spring collection.
Needless to say, I had to share the love/beauty and give you some of my initial thoughts on it all, I obviously need to try some of these items out for a little longer to have a better & well-formed opinion but here we go with my first impression roundup.
Perfume
What caught my attention first was the new Chance perfume. I have worn this perfume for years and it has always been part of my collection so to smell a new take on it was very interesting and refreshing. Its name is Eau Vive and it is a perkier, sharper version. Vibrant and of course floral, with hints of zesty grapefruit, blood orange, Cedar & Iris.
The girl (Or guy) who wears this is young at heart, bubbly, outdoorsy, daring and a little cheeky.
Foundation
A stand-out to me is the Le Beige foundation. Lightweight on the skin, it has a medium coverage and gives a radiant yet velvety finish to the skin. It is formulated for all skin types (perhaps unless you are super oily)
I have been trialling this foundation for just over a week and it is quickly becoming part of my daily routine and would easily be a go-to foundation for me.
It looks like skin but with a little more texture and it is also buildable so it would work if you are someone who likes the option of having more coverage. It will be perfect for when we come into slightly warmer weather, I can picture wearing it on warm summer days when I just want to add a glow veil and a slight blur to my skin and I dont want to use something that would make me look like ive tried too hard.
Blusher
The sun kiss ribbon blush makes me not even want to touch it because of its stunning pressed interlaced pattern. Fantastic for someone who wants to add some brightness & cheer to their complexion. Due to the complex & clever mix of shades, I believe it would suit an array of different skin tones.
Easy to work with and to apply, you only need a light hand as it is well-pigmented.
I havent used the other items as of yet so I dont want to write about them with no knowledge behind my words but there are also the longwear eyeshadows, bright waterproof eyeliners and new shades of Rouge coco shine (not pictured here) which are extremely comfortable on the lips, moisturising and eye-catching in tone.
Oh and I mustnt forget that Sunrise trip nail varnish, I die for shades like this and it probably doesnt do it justice shown just from the bottle, so I will be getting that on my nails as soon as possible.
