Next Stop Reykjavik
Next Stop Reykjavik
Twice in one day. Its either feast or famine around here, isnt it? Not, come to think of it, that two brief posts constitute a feast.
Not unless youre one of the two French women at the next table, here in the Food Court at the Boston Logan International Terminal. They are having quite a heated conversation about how all the options here are too much, too much! They havent mentioned liver attacks yet, but theyre French, so it should come around any minute.
I happen to agree with them. Its too much, and its disgusting. What passes for decent food in an Airportany airport Ive been through, even outside the United Statewould be considered slop for half the price in the land outside the runways. I settled on Chinese food, like the two French women. They are splitting a single entrée, a bottle of water, and a cup of rice. They might consider these two entries a feast.
Notice how I finally remembered where I was going with that?
Oh, and the hat. I finished the hat, aside from weaving in the ends. I wound up just doing an asymmetrical garter-stitch brim. Heres a picture.
I hope you noticed the cleaning lady in the background, asking herself, "What in the Hell is he doing?" You work at an airport, honey. This cannot possibly be the weirdest thing youve seen today.
Maybe I should leave the needle in, and tell people who ask that its an antenna. Better yet, leave the needle in and tell that to everyone, even if they dont ask. I bet I could get three seats all to myself.
Fine, its not going to win any design awards, but itll keep my flipping ears warm. Its also my first top-down hat, and its a method Ill be delighted to repeat.
I could fuss with the brim some more, but I have to move on to the next project.
Because I forgot to pack a scarf.
PS They just said it! Crise de foie! I feel like I should yell, "Bingo!"

Next Stop The City of Siblingly Love!
Next Stop The City of Siblingly Love!
[Please note there will be no post tomorrow, Friday, November 4th, because there wont. I will resume regular updates on Monday, Nov. 7th, because I will.]
This Saturday, November 5th, which is the fifth day of the 11th month of the two-thousand one hundred and sixteenth year since Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ rolled over the odometer on the calendar (or, if you prefer, the VIth Annus of the Lobster--not to be confused with the VIth Anus of the Lobster, lobsters only have one), Ill be at the Philly Bike Expo in guess which mid-Atlantic city famous for cracked bells and cheese steaks:

More specifically, Ill be giving a "seminar" at 1:30pm, which will most likely involve a live quiz with valuable* prizes, assuming I can get it together:

*(Prizes will be of little to no monetary value.)
Im very much looking forward to seeing at least some of you there, but please note that in order to attend you must first print and sign this waiver which was drafted by my legal team, Cipo, Cipo, & Cipo, LLP: Well Get You Off!

And yes, I will be checking.
Anyway, all those fantastic prizeways wont curate themselves, so todays post needs be short. However, rest assured you can revel in lots more of my prose by reading my latest column for Reclaim, which is the Vanity Fair of the smugness set:

The short version is we should be using 21st century technology to stop drivers from slaughtering people, instead of the twin-pronged approach we use now which is basically a combination of victim-blaming and nothing.
Lastly, speaking of bikes and Jesus, the Gun of Sods tomb is getting a sweet titanium upgrade:

Rainwater had deteriorated much of the mortar over the centuries. Iron support bars that were fully corroded will be removed and replaced by titanium.
I wonder if it will be more laterally stiff and vertically compliant than it was when I visited like 25 years ago:

Jesus wept...over my outfit.
See some of you on Saturday and the rest of you on Monday.
Until then,
I remain,
Etc. and so forth,
