Next Time Someone Argues For Trickle Down Economics Show Them This

In her Huffington Post article, Kathleen Miles suggests that the "Next Time Someone Argues For Trickle-Down Economics, Show Them This."

February 6, 2014

Conservatives like to say that "a rising tide lifts all boats." In other words, if an executive makes $20 million a year, his income will eventually trickle down into the rest of the economy and ultimately benefit poor people.

But that theory hasnt exactly proven true. The highest-earning 20 percent of Americans have been making more and more over the past 40 years. Yet no other boats have risen; in fact, theyre sinking. Over the same 40 years, the lowest-earning 60 percent of Americans have been making less and less.

Imagine the lines below as tides. As you can see, one is rising, while the others are falling (and one is stagnant):

The chart comes from the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequalitys recently released 2014 report. The researchers looked at rising poverty and inequality in the U.S., particularly since the 2007-2008 recession.

Other studies have shown a correlation between bigger tax cuts for the 1 percent and income inequality. In the U.S., the top earners have made more money in the last 60 years as the top marginal tax rate has been slashed and as the rising dominance of Wall Street has allowed a few to make enormous profits.

An OECD study in 2013 found that the U.S. had the highest income inequality in the developed world. Out of all nations, only Chile, Mexico and Turkey had higher levels of income inequality, according to the study.

So what does this all mean in actual dollars? It means that more than half of U.S. wage earners made less than $30,000 in 2012, which is not far above the $27,010 federal poverty line for a family of five. Meanwhile, the top 10 percent of earners took more than half of the countrys total income in 2012.

In other words, a rising tide has lifted a few big boats and washed the rest aside.

Natures Turkey Simple Art Project For Kids

Just popping in today with a little project my four-year-old and I did yesterday afternoon.

Natures Turkey {Easy Art Project For Kids} from Blissful Roots

I realized the other day that I havent made a single turkey with my boys this year, and Thanksgiving is less than a week away! The horror, I know.

Anyway, we decided to make a turkey from nature this time around. I always love how these turn out, and the best part is you dont have to make or buy a single supply! Mother Nature provides them all.

Its amazing what you can find outside this time of year. At first glance, everything seems so dead and dreary, but take another look and youll be surprised with what can be found. This entire turkey (minus the hot glue and paper) was made from things we found in my in-laws yard. Making the turkey itself was fun, but the hunt for materials was actually our favorite part. We gathered leaves, berries, and a pinecone, then hot glued everything on to a white piece of card stock. So simple, so natural, and of course, adorable!

What kind of turkeys do you like to make at your house this time of year?

Thanks so much for stopping by! I hope you found a little something worth your time.

Linking up to these parties & Savvy Southern Style.

NATURAL TREATMENTS FOR FIBROIDS

Fibroids are non-cancerous tumors that grow in or around the womb, or uterus. The growths are made up of muscle and fibrous tissue and can vary in size. Fibroids are sometimes known as uterine myomas or fibromyomas.

Many women are unaware that they have fibroids as they do not have any symptoms. This often means that fibroids are diagnosed by chance during a routine gynecological examination, test or scan. If they are suspected, your GP will recommend more tests, such as an ultrasound scan, to confirm fibroids.

Fibroids can present many symptoms such as heavy, prolonged periods, which can lead to anemia, acute pain during periods, abdominal pain and bloating, discomfort during sex, more frequent urination, waking several times a night to urinate, constipation, pain in the lower back and legs, and it can also cause infertility or complications during pregnancy.

HERBAL REMEDIES
A useful homemade remedy is to make a castor oil pack to help relieve congestion in the womb.

Herbs that strengthen the liver, such as milk thistle tablets or tincture, will help it to eliminate old hormones from the blood.

Agnus castus is useful for hormone balance. Take 25 drops of tincture in a glass of water every morning.

Lady’s mantle can be effective at reducing excessive bleeding and lowering estrogen dominance, as is chaste tree. Take them as a tincture or in teas.

AROMATHERAPY

Ginger oil is a powerful circulation stimulant, and it improves liver function. Put a few drops in the bath, or use in massage.

Marjoram can help to relieve cramping and discomfort.

Rose oil helps to ease tension. It also has mild hormone-balancing properties and is believed to work as a uterine tonic.

NUTRITIONAL MEDICINE
Eat foods containing phytoestrogens, such as soybean products, lentils, and chickpeas, which can help to reduce excessive levels of estrogen in your blood.

Reduce your intake of saturated fat but get plenty of essential fatty acids from eating oily fish, nuts, and seeds.

Make sure you include plenty of fiber in your diet to ease constipation. Choose whole-grain products, brown rice, and oats, as well as plenty of fruits and vegetables.

Dark chocolate with at least 80% cocoa is a good source of iron for those who are worried about anemia, or take a daily teaspoonful of molasses.

Vitamin A, B and C, plus zinc, calcium, magnesium, and iron are all essential for hormone balance. Choose a good-quality multivitamin supplement that contains them all.
